Meet The Principal

Hello Nimitz Families! My name is Yvonne Sugimura, and I am excited to serve as Nimitz's principal. Here's a little bit about me. My family immigrated from Vietnam, and I was born and raised in San Jose. I am the youngest of six kids. My parents raised us to be bilingual. In doing so, I have been able to support families in communities that I have worked in. 

I earned my degree from University of Southern California in Public Policy & management and my M.A. from San Jose State University in Curriculum and Instruction. I have previously taught grades 1, 3 and 7 prior to moving on to school site administration. My previous role was at the district level in Student Services. In this role, I supported school sites around individual student and family needs. 

With 20 years in education, I continue to learn and grow each day from our students, families, and staff. I believe that in education, we can't be satisfied with the status quo. As the learning landscape of our students change, as educators, we too, should reflect on our practices to ensure that we are supporting all our students.
